There are two kinds of stars: There are the ones that pull in mass audiences, win awards and are constantly working on their media image. And then there are the other ones who don’t. Harvey Keitel belongs to the ‘other’ group. Every role is a new tightrope act for him, a laying bare of the soul. He has managed to defy any typecasting, playing such divergent roles as the burnt-out cop in Bad Lieutenant, the sensitive savage in The Piano, the betrayed gangster in Reservoir Dogs, and the cool professional in Pulp Fiction. Just as he never took the easy path during his youth, he has spent his acting career taking the hard road, and we have all been the richer for it.

"In most underclass neighborhoods, lower, middle class neighborhoods, who are certain underclass neighborhoods there is an imperative to be tough to survive. But many towns, many wonderful towns, have come out of such environments. I said it pointedly to your viewers, to the young people particularly, let no one ever tell you you can not do something. You can do it. What it takes is your commitment and your willingess to suffer."
