TO TRANSFORM A RESUME INTO ART- THE CINEASTIC DEPARTURES OF EDGAR REITZ A film by Peter Buchka
Reitz was one of the founder of the New German Cinema. Together with Alexander Kluge he developed its politic and aesthetic priciples. Curiously his breakthrough came when the New German Film was already on its decline. 1982, the year Fassbinder died, Reitz produced the fifteen hour television series "Heimat". The film is made up of a series of detailed interviews and excerpts from his films. Reitz was the first German director who came to peace with his country, which a generation of sons of guilty fathers only wanted to change or desert.
